Oh Neil, that doesn't help now, and besides there is no explanation it wasn't a straight console login. >>/bin/grep: Permission Denied >>/bin/awk: Permission Denied Hmm unlikely you changed the permission on /bin/grep, so these could be the permissions on "/" "/bin/" or possibly the password file "/etc/passwd" is munged (or related authentication stuff, altough with). More likely it is the problems with mounting proc is more generic. Read the boot messages carefully for any clues, is "/" mounted read-only still or is it read-write. Also try booting from the Redhat CD, and mounting the file systems on temporary directories, this should let you readily run fsck and fix any probem if they are fairly basic. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/HRvKGFXfHI9FVgYRAuvEAKCBXP3VhYNqvHfAYnIPQNFj9atbIwCgzA4D WVMPL9g1HERjwf0/VqxurCI= =dqCy -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
