I was changing some user settings in the root account on my laptop the other day, when i logged out Linux stopped responding I left it to sort itself out but batteries ran out and things weren't unmounted properly. Now my Linux won't boot. When it tries i get: "Error: /proc must be mounted To mount /proc /proc -t proc /bin/grep: Permission Denied /bin/awk: Permission Denied Checking root file system couldn't open /proc/partitions no such file or directory is /proc mounted?" Requests root password and drops into shell I tried "mount /proc /proc -t proc" got "bash: /bin/mount: Permission Denied" Anyone had any similar problems and willing to help me? I haven't had Linux for long so I'm not used to using the shell I haven't been to any meetings yet but I could bring laptop along if anyone wants a look __________________________________________________________________________ Join Freeserve http://www.freeserve.com/time/ Winner of the 2003 Internet Service Providers' Association awards for Best Unmetered ISP and Best Consumer Application. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
