hmm.... I occasionally day dream about having a carbon neutral data centre somewhere in cornwall - there should be grants available. I think you could almost certainly get around the access issue (i.e. engineers travelling to site to do things) with a good setup - inhouse technicians should rarely have to intervene, but when they do, there is no reason to not provide full audio/video/textual interaction instead of the current scenario where you ask somebody in one office over the phone to power-cycle a machine, they then create a job ticket, some other person in another office has to walk from that office to the colocation, press the power button, and close the ticket (without checking for any boot or other signs of success or failure), and then you call again 30 mins or an hour later to see if anybody actually did restart the server or not.
