ping is important in these games, the better you are at them the more important things like ping are (and the extra delay of using a wireless mouse) which means that every linux box sending out properly configured packets is going to have to compete with every windows box sending out malformed "me first!" packets.

In this particular example, the linux version of Unreal Tournament (done by Loki) has quite broken netcode. The conversion was apparently done without understanding the difference between windows and linux packet differences and the same netspeed setting on a linux server actually performs *worse* than a windows' one.


It's not a problem once you know about it, as you can just increase the linux servers' tickrate.
