So, disregarding web services, I guess I need a backup DNS and a backup MX to store my mails until I am back online, right? So can you Dave provide this service ?
Well, I can provide backup DNS and backup MX if you like. Your domain is hosted on a machine, which is also the sole dns server for that domain which is a bit fragile. Backup DNS should ensure that mail doesn't fail due to a non-existant domain. Backup MX could be configured to hold mail if your server is down longer than it would be held in a sending hosts queue. The various arguments for and against backup mx have been debated a lot here, so I'll leave it up to you whether you want that. I can certainly provide backup DNS for nowt though. You'd need to: 1) Set the second nameserver for your domain to point to redwood.trudgian, net (66.160.135.51) 2a) Configure your DNS server software to allow redwood.trudgian.net ) 66.160.135.51) to act as a slave server. OR 2b) Let me know all the DNS information you need hosted, A names, CNAMES MX records etc. AND keep me up to date with changes... This is a bodge up for if you have some hosting account where you can't allow slave DNS. - -- Dave Trudgian - Cornish Dave - ---------------------------- [w] www.trudgian.net [e] dave@xxxxxxxxxxxx [j] trudgiad@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAfveat+PdOLWW6O4RArZ+AJ43c3Bh1jM+FdhlY/zwj9i5EqmqPgCeNFn2 Hiy7bq9gHYOH3h/5jBWX1pc= =wMk1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
