[LUG] apropos

Anyone else had the "apropos" command apparently failing to work (on
Mandrake 9.0) ?  I ran "makewhatis" to rebuild the database, but without
any apparent success. After an age trying to debug the makewhatis script,
I realised that it was in fact working perfectly well, but was writing to
/var/cache/man/en_GB/whatis, whilst apropos was reading from
/var/cache/man/whatis. So, removed the latter file and replaced it with a
symbolic link to the former file, and all is now well. Perhaps I chose a
wrong language setting somewhere in the installation procedure.
