In fairness, I should say that an 80A fuse can run for some time
(several hours) at over capacity, but that doesn't mean that one
/should/ do that.  Also, as Gordon says, it's a circumstance that's
quite unlikely to occur in a normal *domestic* setting.

Your village hall setting doesn't qualify as normal domestic, obviously.
The steps taken to prevent supply failure may take people by surprise
if/when (say) the kettle shuts down, but they'll soon get used to it.

As you can tell from the overall discussion, I tend to be a 'glass half
empty' sort of chap when it comes to this type of scenario.  That said, I
don't _expect_ the worst to happen, but am unsurprised, and even 
disheartened, whenever it does.

If storm Darragh teaches us anything, it's that these types of event are
likely to become more frequent.
