Maybe I am being a bit cynical, but I think this is probably an indication that the product is not really profitable for VMWare any longer and could be a prelude to it being discontinued. The industry has mostly moved from standalone virtualization on to container orchestration technologies. Practically for anyone interested here in the LUG I can highly recommend libvirt for virtualization. GNOME Boxes is a really simple GUI for creating virtual machines, there is virt-manager if you want to customize things further, and of course you can script the entire thing with virsh and cloud-init. The nice thing about libvirt is that you can switch between all of the above without losing any data in your virtual machines. You can also use systemd unit files to automate things, which I haven't needed to do for virtual machines but works nicely for containers too. Best wishes, Sebastian
