I find grub's rescue prompt to give me bad days.Thank you for courtesy of asking about problem. No problem at present, other than slowness booting & shut down (old rusting iron external USB HDD) Not sufficient to annoy me yet. I have never found out how to use GRUB's rescue prompt.Me either, that's why seeing it gives me bad days *lol*So then I either reboot Choice of normal or: old working system as normal or 'safe boot' OpenSUSE always has a boot option 'safe boot' which loads the drivers and programs in a different order from normal boot and has never failed to start system. If it did, I would just do a fresh install. KISS is my main way. That or a GRUB Recovery boot disk - note to self: I must find mine! Often mine finds GRUB errors and rebuilds it with whatever entries it found.Julian
PS https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/ might be worth a look. I'll have to do it later after a reinstall of Windows 7 - as this is a dual-boot PC and Windows will overwrite GRUB with its own bootloader.
