I do have a brand new smart phone now, which is taking me a while to learn. Recently a neighbour, who had always seemed well, was taken ill and diagnosed with leukaemia, stage 4. So she was sent home. She lasted less than two weeks.

So why tell you this? A wake up call. I have lived here in Holsworthy for 18 years. There is no way that I have 18 years left, or even close. So I have decided to splash out a bit while I can. Hence the posh new phone. And a new printer, which was forced on me. And probably a smart new small laptop to use downstairs instead of spending so much time upstairs in my study, alone.

Chief, I'm glad to hear you say this and can honestly only let you know that as a fellow mortal, I think you're on to a good thing here. We are definitely not going to be here for long and providing we're lucky enough to be able to keep the wolves from the door, investing a little (or even a lot) of our precious remaining time and resources in the things we love can only be a good thing.

Treating yourself to the indispensable tools of the trade (in modern society a smartphone is a wonderful thing to have!) is a good idea. Get yourself a new laptop as well - it's not like you're having a midlife crisis and blowing the nestegg on a new sports car after all. Especially if you're looking to spend more time socialising with the missus rather than lurking in a room full of computers all the time (I too am guilty of this) and a nice new gadget will help, go for it.

In much the same spirit I grabbed an opportunity a few months ago to fulfil a life long ambition that had escaped me until now - I'm not getting any younger (or fitter) myself. After all these years I'm finally surfing :]
