Yes, with my previous printer, the one that died, I had it linked by USB cable and also wifi. When I used my desktop computer to print I used it via the USB cable. When I used my laptop to print I used wifi. It all just worked.
That is why I am planning to get the relevant cable so that the new printer can be linked by the cable to the desktop computer. On the laptop I will use wifi. 

Does that make sense?
