I think I’ll probably call it a day here as I think I’ve caused a meltdown a few times now. Sorry to be the cause of such hassle. I’ll sort out leaving the group.Don't do that. "We lives an' learns." 82 years old and still learning! DavidYes, sometimes it is easy to mis-interpret the intended "tone" of an email, you may read it as someone melting down, but it probably wasn't written in that way. My thunderbird has a "Reply List" button, what I think would be a nice feature (perhaps it already exists?), would be to bottom post when replying to list, and top posting when replying to a single person. And even better, it appears that the Reply-List only appears when there is a mailing list header in the email being replied to, probably the "List-Post" header in the email. Anyone care to write an RFC to define a "List-Composition-Preference:" header? That way you could configure mailman to tell the email client what is the preferred top-posting / bottom-posting for each particular mailing list? Perhaps it already exists, but it would have saved tonnes of bandwidth over the years with polite "don't top-post" requests. You can do this effectively with identities - So in Thunderbird, I have my main email address as an identity of this gmail email address. This address is registered on the LUG list and is the default for "Reply List". I have then set this identity (via Manage Identities in Account Settings) to be plain text composition, replying below the quoted text. However, I think I may have cause the original issue on this thread. because I had just done a fresh install of Ubuntu and Thunderbird and got my identities confused so was sending HTML messages replying at the top! Sorry. We can put policy and tools in place, but there's sometimes no accounting for idiots like me - In IT Helpdesk speak, it's PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair). While I'm here, does the list not email you your own posts, or is it some setting I have switched on? I probably double/triple posted over the last few days because I wasn't sure if the email had made it to everyone else... Secondly, and somewhat in reply to the final question in this post .. the List has some very strange mangling going on as a consequence of attempted DKIM/etc for all users, and it seems a few mail providers (eg. Google) get really badly upset with this. I do get replies to my own posts (as all good ML should) but you may find that they have been mis-filed by Google somewhere (or silently dropped). Top marks for the Thunderbird config tips .. obviously not everyone uses Tbird, and Gmail has poor support for configurability (not a real mail client). Somewhere I must have set some composition settings where replies to the list do indeed arrive at the bottom of the new message .. I can't find the option for that right now though! Just my 2cents .. I often forget that not all of our members here have the same level of proficiency and experience with the Linux/internet ecosystems, and it is this diversity and learning from each other that makes these communities vibrant!
