As there are alternatives, then perhaps, if, this does happen it is a case of just signing up to for example bitbucket, copying projects over, deleting github and making a clear statement as to why? As it is also possible to host your own git server perhaps as a Linux user group we could do that, may have to ALL chip in to cover the cost, but is this something that is do-able. How many people here use git? How many people here would move? How many people here would be willing to PAY or contribute for a lug hosted service? If you read the article MS does have code on github, Any take over seems to remove that autonomy.
