Well, all your data is still there so no need to worry: first, boot holding down LEFT shift and you'll see the grub boot menu. There you'll see your current kernel and several old ones under the advanced options list. Try booting an older one first and then an older one in rescue mode and see if that gets you anywhere. In rescue mode you'll at least get kernel boot messages. Might also be worth booting your live USB stick and sniffing around for a minute just to check all your data is still there, and to copy off anything you really want to save before you go any further. Ubuntu really isn't what is used to be these days and it's unfortunately easy to bork it quite badly but you're most likely suffering from some missing packages or some badly default configured software after the failed Kubuntu experiment - that would have pulled in a lot of changes and removed a lot of stuff that normal Ubuntu needed. What was Ubuntu running before for a WM? Unity/Gnome/Mate/? Cheers -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG https://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
