Debian + Mate Primarily you need a GUI which doesn't get in the way / confuse The main issue with other distros I've found (inc. those built on Debian) is the release schedule - Debian's nice and slow, other "LTS" distros are good, because by the time it's throwing up "I'm out of date" errors, the device is usually due a "tune-up" anyway (by that, I don't mean Windows slow-down, I mean, getting the end user to ditch a pile of files they don't need, perhaps even doing a backup!) I'm toying with Arch at home (for MythTV) purely because of its rolling release, so I always have something up-to-date - but I wouldn't suggest that for an "office" user. >From the other point of view (sorry for the hijack) - the office "server".
