Not strictly Linux but related. I have an android phone (Galaxy S) that is now out of contract & warranty. I'd be interested in unlocking it for use on another network, and also in installing a new updated build. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
Get in-touch with your current provider - they might (and will if O2) unlock the phone free of charge.
First google finds this though: http://www.redmondpie.com/permanently-carrier-unlock-galaxy-s-iii-and-galaxy-note-ii-for-free-how-to-tutorial/ Might be worth a try. And as others suggest - if you're in a good O2 area, try Giff Gaff... I've a couple of free SIMs if you're at the next LUG meets, or click here: http://giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/gordondrogon (Other affiliate links are available ;-)By using an affiliate link we both get a free fiver, but do check you're in a good O2 area first. I've found Exeter to be particularly bad for O2, but I have a good 3G signal on my local mast half way down the A38.
Right now the best data network is probably Three though. Gordon -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
