The DCLUG lists rejects email based on SPF fail as I found out yesterday which royally pissed me off - although technically my own fault. It didn't reject a few days ago and I suspect it's due to the list recently moving to using IPv6 as well as IPv4, and me enabling outgoing IPv6 on my email - I didn't have SPF records for my IPv6 addresses, So I've just added 1208925819614629174706176 IP addresses into my SPF records. Hm. I'll probably end up adding another 4722366482869645213696 for my home/office allocation.
SPF is useless for spam because the (good) spammers use SPF!
During the early adoption phase of SPF there was one point where spammers were adopting SPF faster than non-spammers (presumably one of the big email providers - probably Hotmail - was letting SPF approved email through too readily), and here lies the problem with it as an anti-spam measure.
