Hi Any recommendations for tablet computers, not buying yet, but I have so many pdf files it may help to have something other than a netbook to read them on, So android OS and a kindle App would be useful too, pdf reader is colour which is helpful esp as Open university course books are in colour, and the electronic versions are PDF, so being able to read without having to cart a pile of books around with me would be useful. given a kindle costs £89 a little more gets a tablet that can do a lot more. Or even a little less. I guess these things hook up to wifi too, not that important but a feature. any recommendations Paul
There are a few cheaper tablets available out there, generally unbranded devices. I can't comment how good they are as I haven't used them but the spec usually seems to be okay (around 1GHz CPU, 512MB Ram maybe around 4 or 8GB storage space which is expandable via SD cards).
The only thing I'd suggest is if you can go for a capacitive touch screen as you won't need anything like a stylus to use it.
You may also be worth waiting too as I gather Amazon are releasing their Android based Kindle Fire in the next couple of months (possibly as soon as May from what I read somewhere) and I would guess it will probably be around the £200 mark all being well (well, ideally cheaper than £200 since I think it's about $200 in the states, but as you probably know, the prices always seem to go up when they come to the UK).
If the Kindle Fire is past your budget then maybe have a look at Price Angels (http://www.priceangels.com) who have tablets from about £42, although at £42 you're going to get a resistive touch screen and possibly a pretty low spec CPU and not much memory. The cheapest capacitive tablet seems to start at around £60 which gives you a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU (which I gather from a Google search is the same ARM core as used in the iPhone 4, Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy Tab) and 512MB Ram and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) so it would be reasonable for things like the Kindle app.
