Just wondering, I leave my desktop computer switched off most of the time, and turn it on as and when I want to use it. As I finish each session I turn if off again. I have noticed that some people leave theirs running all the time, or almost anyway. Is there any good/bad or right/wrong way with this, or is it just up to the individual? thanks, Neil
As others have pointed out turning it off and on - can cause problems. When you've got your heating on the power used by the PC can be called 'supplementary' - its not really wasting power. In summer in an office space with the air-con on its a double waste - the air-con is a sin against nature and wastes further power getting rid of the waste heat from the pc. It largely depends on your useage of the PC - are you (A) a manager and need it instantly so you can send of an ill considered e-mail NOW or are you (B) a thoughtful educated person who can utilise the minute the PC takes to boot up in thoughtful consideration of your next move?
If (A) you should not have a computer or any sharp implements. If (B) try not to be too reactive when your computer is on. Tom te tom te tom -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
