Anyway, let me know what flavours your VMs are so I can point you in the right direction. The easiest way to tell if the guest additions are installed properly is if you can dynamically resize the VM guest's desktop by simply grabbing a corner of it's VBox window on your host and dragging it about. Your USB issue should be resolved if you have installed the guest-additions correctly and the extensions pack on the host - delete your USB filter, they're unnecessary for normal operation. Cheers, Mat
Here is the list of VM's I have set up at the moment. kubuntu 11.10 Mepis 11.0 pcbsd 9 RC 1 Suse 12.1 XubuntuSo what is that all about? At the moment I am using Mint v 10 KDE (the host). Support for this will run out in April. It looks like the next version of Mint KDE is going to be based on Debian and will be a 'rolling release' distro. I don't want to go there, purely personal, so I have been trying out other distros to decide what to do next April.
I have also looked at others via live CD's including Pardus, Puppy, PcLos and Lubuntu. I was going to look at Chakra until I spotted that it uses Gnome.
After your last email I checked the two VM's where I have installed the guest additions (or tried to). Xubuntu seems to be fine, I have resized the VBox window and also when I put a memory stick into a USB port it is recognised and auto mounted. I have not yet worked out how to open one of the folders on the host.
However it looks as though I have made an error somewhere with the kubuntu version. When I click on Devices, CD/DVD devices the guest additions iso is ticked. When I put my memory stick into a USB port it is found and opened up. However when I try Devices, Shared folders I get an error window telling me that the additions do not appear to be installed. I am advised to re-install them. When I click on Devices, Install Guest Additions I am told that it is unable to mount the CD image. One choice is Force Unmount. Can't see what that would do.
So at the moment, Xubuntu is OK, Kubuntu is wrong somewhere. Thanks for all the help so far, Neil -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
