The technology used in the OLPC is available for other uses but I havent seen anyone produce somethting with it - that would give e-reader capabilities to a hand held computer. I fear that they are afraid once people realise you can get everything in one they wont want to buy three computers with a few different peripherals. On 07/11/11 18:33, paul sutton wrote:Having tried to use laptop screens in direct sunlight usually at the shoreline, then lcd + sunlight a no go area. Apparently there is a kindle app for android, you would have to do your own research on that one though. PaulIt's a real shame that OLED screens aren't cheaper yet, my Galaxy S has a Super AMOLED screen and it's lovely, even in bright sunlight (with the brightness on the screen whacked up), but as a SIM free phone it's still about 300 quid and that's just a 4 inch screen.Still the technology is getting there slowly. The Kindle app isn't too bad on Android although I gather that the Kindle itself is more loved than the app (AFAIK if you have Amazon Prime at 50 quid a year you can borrow an e-book on the Kindle eBook reader hardware for as long as you have a Prime subscription).Rob
As for books - I get paper from the library but there are many sources of totally free stuff and there’s more that enough really really good reading not to have to pay a penny for any e-books for the rest of your life. Remember every penny you spend on an e-book is used to lever a pound out of you later.
