As far as Ubuntu is concerned, some packages have upstream dependencies which in turn effect other packages.Mint 10 KDE. For example, if I try to remove some aspects of my Evolution installation, this effects a pile of other applications and if you go ahead and remove it, actually removes vast portions of the gnome desktop!
Ubuntu's package manager warns you of this though.I'd say try it, and if the package manager warns you, then cancel the procedure.
As a last resort you could just remove the icons from the menu system. Martin -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
