Hopefully the people at torplay will get back to either myself or rhia about using the venue for meetings. Schools are open to ideas etc, however due to the lack from OSS community and being bombarded with the MS / Apple way of doing things this isn't going to happen unless we find a school or set of schools and work with them with a common set of ideas / goals. A lot of people still have not heard of Open source / Free software so we need to get in and see how we can help schools or demonstrate how Open source can benefit schools. we have enough combined knowledge and expertise in this lug as well as contacts in schools (me for example) and other areas to really put something together and make a difference. If we can also get more young people on board with regard to developing that that would be a good thing, As getting good software development skills is important and there are people here that really understand the skills needed, why we use open standards like HTML that work on all browsers, rather than having a nice web page with 1 feature that is IE only, we need to educate WHY this is a bad idea. until we educate. nothing will change so educate the educators rather than trying to re-educate everyone else, kids will learn i mean a few of us learnt basic on 8 bit computers so surely modern kids are capable of learning a programming language on a modern PC Paul -- Paul Sutton Cert SLPS (Open) http://www.zleap.net 17th September 2011 - Software freedom day -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/listfaq
