Hi this may help organise meetings in torbay, weekend deals on car park charges paul -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Council launches two parking promotions Date: Fri, 29 Oct 2010 16:30:52 +0100 From: Preston Partnership <PrestonPartnership@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: Preston Partnership <PrestonPartnership@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Message passed on by Preston Community Partnership ---------------------------------- Torbay Council PR 2898 29/10/2010 [For Immediate Release] Council launches two parking promotions Christmas is once again coming early for Torbay traders and shoppers, with Torbay Council offering its popular "Park for a Pound" initiative during December. In another promotion, the council is enabling motorists to park for just 30p for a whole day in several Torbay beach car parks from the beginning of November. The "Park for a Pound" promotion gets underway on Friday 3 December, and will run for four weekends up to Christmas. A £1 ticket purchased in any of Torbay Council's pay and display car parks after 6pm on a Friday evening (3, 10, 17 and 24 December) will be valid right up until 10am on the following Monday. It will be valid in all pay and display car parks, which means that motorists can drive around the Bay throughout the weekend and use the same parking ticket. The promotion is not valid in on-street parking areas. The £1 weekend offer will be available in the Harbour car park in The Terrace, Torquay, but as this is a pay on exit system, the ticket cannot be used in other car parks and the £1 payment applies for each visit to the car park. Cllr Chris Lewis, Cabinet Member with responsibility for economic regeneration, said: "We have run this successful Park for a Pound promotion three times now. It has proved very popular with the business community and shoppers, and we are pleased to be able to lay it on once again at what is a vital period for the local economy. "It is important that we support the Bay's traders during these difficult times, and we are also keen to encourage people to come into our towns to spend their money in local shops. "The normal 24-hour charge for parking is £7, so being able to park for a pound for a whole weekend is fantastic value." Lucy Ball, Chief Executive of the Torbay Town Centres Company, said: "We very much welcome the Park for a Pound promotion. We believe it will help attract shoppers into all of the Bay's towns and result in a much needed boost for our traders. "This parking offer also complements the Torquay Business Improvement District (BID), with a significant amount of marketing and promotion being delivered over the next few weeks to promote Torquay as a Christmas shopping destination." In the other parking promotion, motorists will be able to pay just 30p to park for a whole day in several Torbay beach car parks from Monday 1 November. The promotion, which will run until the end of March, will apply to the following car parks: Kilmorie and Meadfoot Beach (Torquay); Broadsands, Youngs Park and Colin Road (Paignton); and Shoalstone (Brixham). The initiative is targeted mainly at dog walkers and residents who enjoy walking along the beaches in winter months. It will also encourage people to use the car parks instead of parking in surrounding residential roads, causing road safety concerns and inconvenience to local residents.
