Can you not force it using Domain Policies for the Outlook users? Some  
of the MS guys I used to know swore blind that policies would do  
absolutely anything that you wanted them to including installing and  
configuring software - maybe this is a chnace to put that to the test!

Yup, but I can't think of a single organisation I've worked for where  
there's not been a need for improvement on the current/previous  
systems and I'm fairly sure I've left a few systems behind me that my  
successors would disagree with the way in which they're setup.

There is a tool that you can run on a Linux server that will copy via  
IMAP between email servers.  You could cron this to run once or twice  
a day to copy the email to something more stable (such as courier or  
Cyrus) and when the time comes to migrate, the mail server is already  
there with a complete mail history in place.

Just a thought...
