It's very possible that the disc needs to be finalized. I had a similar one recently and had to finalize it in my own dvd recorder so I could use it on the pc. I've got a DVD-RW from a friend with some stuff they recorded off TV with one of these new DVD recorders. However, I can't work out how to play it. VLC just says it can't read the device and mplayer dvd:// says: Couldn't open DVD device: /dev/dvd No stream found to handle url dvd:// I can't mount the CD as iso9660 or udf. What most confuses me is that I can't cat or dd the device either- they both think it's got 0 length. I've got a multi-burner in my PC which I know can read all formats of DVD so that's not the problem. Even in Windows my friend can't play it with WMP (neither can I)- they have to use InterVideo WinDVD 8 (came with their laptop- I don't have it so can't test). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
