Rod > In my opinion the polyclinic system was one of the better aspects of the USSR > health system (which is not to deny the considerable defects of Soviet > healthcare in some other respects, particularly aspects of hospital care). Agreed. The main things i remebered were the speed when i needed specialist care like X-Ray or when i needed my tonsels out. About the hospital care: well, it was so and so because the western technology was not available and as we allknow the soviet technology was really badly outdated. Within the last couple years luckily it has changed. There are still many polyclinics and GP (health) centers, the idea is to maximise unities and give the patients better service. One thing I really liked from the old days was this big fat medical records book (mine had over 200 pages), This was pre computer stage. Every time you were transfered somewhere you took it from your GP and handed to the doctor dealing with you. Yes, i may sound stupid but at least they did not waste paper. The sad thing was ofcourse the big "library" of them in the polyclinics receprion. Hereby i wonder how many sheets/packs/boxes of paper does the A&E in exeter use or the walk in centre. (I'm gonna find out actually) So there's another thouth to get our hospitals more green and save the world. -- Sincerely, Jaan Jänesmäe ------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.quilia.com -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
