The difference between a Linux-friendly consumer ISP and a Linux-unfriendly one in my experience is that the Linux-friendly one doesn't care what OS you use whereas the -unfriendly one refuses to take any support issue raised by you because you are unable to go through their checklist of Windows/Mac settings, rebooting etc etc. Fortunately the -unfriendly ones these days are very few and far between.
