The only thing that's available for checking (easily) is the GRO and or local indexes of BMD registrations, and they contain little info. For deaths it has name of deceased, date of birth, (if known), Registration District were death was registered, volume and page number. Nowhere near enough info to determine if you've got the right John Smith in Exeter that month. For deaths, information is notoriously inaccurate, because the informant may not know the correct DoB, or even the correct spelling of the name. For example, is Fred really Fred, Frederic or Frederick? And in any case, might not have used any of those names for the TV License. With legislation as it currently stands, the only way to get information from a registration is to buy a certified copy of that registration. At £7.00 they aren't cheap, either. It would require a complete overhaul of the registration system to do what you suggest. Not that it's a bad idea, but given the fact that the government have completely ballsed up the last overhaul, and had to go back to doing it all manually, until they can sort it out, it's not a good omen. -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" You never listen to a word that I said Public Image - Public Image Ltd
