As a Kubuntu user, I must admit I use Kmail, however, Evolution is easy to
install in Kubuntu.
First thing, if you install Kubuntu, is to have a look on the menu - there are
several ways to install packages graphically, but the most comprehensive one
is to select the System menu and pick the entry called Adept. That gives the
full list of available packages. The "Add/Remove Programs" list tends to be
more limited in what it shows. A quick note - clicking the Adept entry should
bring up a dialog box to type in your sudo password - I find it sometimes
fails to do so and requires re-selecting Adept, but maybe thats just me!
Anyway, to install Evolution, simply either type it into the search part of
the Adept window or scroll down till you find the package. Highlight it and
if you right click, you can select to install. Selecting to install Evolution
on a KDE system will also select the other packages needed for you - no need
to work out what else you need. It means, on my system, installing 25 extra
packages as well as Evolution, for a total of 11mb download.

Of course, if you are familiar with the apt system, you can simply use apt-get
to install Evolution - that will also select all the relevant other packages.
