Another generalisation that is just as unfair as that of the original troll. MIT has a long tradition of innovation - Richard Stallman for one. > Most visitors from the US would not recognise satire - its > unconstitutional! The US constitution is the only constitution that > guarantees the pursuit of happiness. And they still believe it! Happiness is not incompatible with sharing, the pursuit of happiness can be good for communities of all types. The problem is not the pursuit of happiness, it is the pursuit of the happiness of the individual to the exclusion of the happiness of others. It is similar to the earlier discussions here about discussing the philosophy of free software as part of promoting GNU/Linux. Freedom comes with responsibilities. To be free, you must also respect the freedoms of others - another way of saying that the first link in the chain or oppression imprisons us all. (IIRC an Amnesty International quote). "You can only protect your liberties in this world by protecting the other man's freedom. You can only be free if I am free." http://www.wisdomquotes.com/001634.html - -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFEV7A9iAEJSii8s+MRAoxXAJ93rFfkwxqGBNoE52piPRX0iStCmACZATfH 6ondMNZh39n5HlzDDtigadE= =tHU9 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- - The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
