Hi Simon, Many thanks for that. I can see all the FAT32 partitions and the partition I use for /home. They're all symlinks from the desktop. However there is one symlink to hda8 that says "could not mount device: not a directory" when I click it. I followed your instructions and when I entered 'mkdir /mnt/test$a' I got a report it already exists. So I just tried 'mount /dev/hda8 /mnt/test8' but the system wants me logged in as root to do that. Had a google and found out how to set the root password for a Knoppix Live CD (Knoppix Menu -> Root Shell, type 'passwd' if anyone else needs to know). Turns out hda8 was the Knoppix root, probably a ramdisk? So no joy there. In /dev there are loads of hdaNs so I'll just try and trawl through and see if any of them work out.
