I've found GNU/Linux recovery is something the free Ubuntu Live CDs do really well -- probably down to the good folks at Morphix, rather than anything Mr Shuttleworth paid for -- but at least Mr Shuttleworth sent us the CDs free of charge. I suspect any recent Morphix or Knoppix Live CD would work as well.
