Does anyone know a good broadband provider that can provide unlimited access and self install at a good rate?
Much difference between cable and ADSL?
How does Telewest compare? Are they ADSL or something else?
Has to be self install, I have to connect a modem/router so that the broadband can be shared. USB no good since I can't leave a PC on.
I have just signed up with Metronet. I'm not connected yet as we don't get ADSL enabled 'till January.
First impressions are that they are Linux friendly. It is a wires only package, they recommend a proper router and even provide some hints and tips on models they have encountered.
The PayGo tariff is a bit odd. They start you at a really low rate then charge by the MiB until you reach the max monthly charge (< £30 for 1MB connection). The actual transfers are not capped.
I have been with Metronet for about a year and can vouch for their Linux friendliness. eg The guy I spoke to had not only heard of KDE but seemed to know the in-and-outs ot the cat's a**e about most versions of Kmail.
As I'm not a heavy user their pricing system suits me. At switch over I was paying less for ADSL than I did for dial-up.
