Possibly not relevent but: 1) Avoid Word and Tables if possible, it's shocking. I may have failed my degree on this - the darn thing caused words to disappear just before printing up my project (WordXP). 2) Can always use tab-delimited txt, though possibly extra effort. Also, other formats of database supported by both. Try to avoid non-standard features like comment boxes and VBA. I'm sorry I haven't much experience with OOffice... on the basis that I don't know it and don't yet have to do much work of that type I'm using CrossOver Office. I'm on the lookout for cross platform Office apps though, should I have to do more work along similar lines. While I'm at it I supose I should ask what non-M$ apps offer the following features I use in databases: - pivot tables - combination graphs - comment boxes - ability to colour cells - auto descriptive stats - vlookup, =MONTH and the like I originally thought Excel was one of M$'s only decent apps but after using it to do more than basic work I'm beginning to worry; if this is supposed to be the best then what's the worst we've got. What alternatives are there out there? The ability to interact with mySql, Oracle sounds interesting too. I'd like to use these really but there's not enough need to learn that much. I use Open Office at home on my Linux (what else?) network, and the same on my employer's mandated M$ system. I found that I had constant trouble with M$ Office 2000 and OO saved-in-M$Word-format files when others accessed them with M$Word/Excel etc.. However, saving them as M$Office 98 (I think it is) cures the problem, as flakeOffice then asks you if you want to save the file in the new and unique file format of your own personal version of M$SwearWord. Having done that the OO file's table(s) is/are the right size and shape. Try it, HTH!
