And "resetting the iptables" should lead to the free flow of traffic in either direction, right? I tried running the loop you mentioned, and still no outgoing connections work (not even DNS lookups). My nameservers are listed in /etc/resolv.conf correctly. "iptables -L" still lists no rules, my connection still doesn't work until I restart firestarter.
