Thanks. > > Rich In common with a great many Linux GUI apps, Ark does not actually compress or uncompress any files, it just acts as a nice user interface for the job and passes the donkey work to command line apps. In this case it is looking for a program called "zip" (and probably its partner "unzip") to handle pkzip style compressed archives. This programme does not appear to be on your system - check your installation cds.
