Read the fine archive (for Netscape) of the DCLUG, this guy called Simon wrote his experiences down there, as he couldn't find any relevant Internet resources, apart from the Netscape website, which wanted to sell you their Directory Server (which makes it very easy to do!). Mozilla exports LDIF, LDAP Interchange Format, it shouldn't be hard to get this into an LDAP server, although the OpenLDAP tools are a bit mysterious, the website has some good examples on importing LDIF, and the manual is really quite good. However the Open LDAP server is a bit vague on topics of authentication, this I suspect is because unlike Oracle and similar databases, you basically load the admin settings into the database yourself (where as Oracle preload them for you). Beyond that there is a magic password in the config file. Now indexing OpenLDAP server seems to be seriously underdocumented, but then how many addresses can a man have, I only had about 1500 at the time. I dare say if you have a slow database and a PC to hand to play with, you'll figure it out in half an hour.
