But if you don't have a working Debian box that might be fun to decipher. I got an /etc/init.d/xdm and an /etc/init.d/kdm on install. I also got an /etc/X11/default-display-manager containing the one line "/usr/bin/kdm" And symbolic links in /etc/rc2.d to /etc/init.d scripts, S99kdm and S99xdm. Obviously your mileage will vary depending on what options you chose on install, but I wonder if the default-display-manager is set. Probably the Debian way is to reconfigure kdm - something like "dpkg-reconfigure kdm" - assuming it is installed. I found I had to delete the CD as a source to get the full list of available upgrades - or maybe it was coincidence - can anyone confirm this? i.e. Add Debian stable entries to sources list apt-get update apt-get upgrade Repeat these two until no patches are pending vi|nano sources file to remove CD apt-get update apt-get upgrade -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+XClgGFXfHI9FVgYRAgIMAJ9PfQG9nt6EjJO0VjnHDjkhAosAGQCgo7JB MeOD+f8b5wj9KabW1u1963A= =6ipZ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
