In this case, ns[1-5] are authoritive DNS servers scattered around the world, where as our resolvers, x.x.x.x are used by our customers on ADSL + Dialup that do the lookup on behalf of you, and live in telehouse. both have distinct tasks .. one (nameservers) serves out the correct and authoritive information on domains it is a nameserver for, the other (resolvers) run away and find the answer for you. There is probably a better name for 'dns server/nameserver', i just can't think of it off the top of my head ;) ~ Theo - -- Theo Zourzouvillys <theo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> <http://theo.me.uk/> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+REfe448CrwpTn6YRAnZtAJ9rJh3GObMC9jRu0fOp97TKj0nSVACeLnBt 68O0lAnUlUSh1a5/L6eHbPc= =3r/d -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
