Sent | me RedHat 7.2 cds. which I installed (not too successfully) so after | reading review opted for Mandrake v9. This after some false starts now | working quite satisfactorily. For me anyway , I only need word processor | plus emails, browsing net, +photocopying + edit Have two niggles:-
My personal setup; Word processor = Abiword Internet and email = Mozilla Scanning = Xsane Image Editing = Gimp
| 1) When system opens up it does so with number lock active. How can I | alter this.?
| 2) Although installation process identified sound card correctly as ES1868 | PnP Audio drive - I get following error messages | when trying to run CD Player. device/dev/dsp can't be opened (no such | file in directory) Sound Server will continue using null output device.
I am not overly familiar with Mandrake but i know with several distros there is a soundconfig application or similar. Also you will need to ensure that the sound drivers are compiled as either modules or in the kernel (personally i have modules)
OK this one I can probably deal with, freedb holds a database of CD audio information that can be queried or submitted if there is no entry for it. This database holds the Album/Single name, artist and the names of the tracks. This message implies that there is no entry for the CD you are trying to play.
| Some pointers in the right direction to overcome these two items will be | appreciated. Have searched around without success. Found one poor soul | with same problem with sound but he does not appear to have had an | answer from anyone.
