The relevant file (/etc/pam.d/poweroff[reboot]) looks like this #%PAM-1.0 auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_rootok.so auth required /lib/security/pam_console.so #auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth account required /lib/security/pam_permit.so uncommenting the third line will prompt the user to give the root password before it carries out the operation.
Alternatively, commenting the line back in should allow users to access KPPP, for example, without the root password? I'm trying to emulate in RH what I can do in Mandrake and Slackware. I can activate KPPP from the command line only if I deliberately avoid consolehelper - /usr/sbin/kppp instead of /usr/bin/kppp->consolehelper (/usr/sbin/kppp has SUID set.) Do I need to restart a daemon somewhere? It's not working yet. - -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.codehelp.co.uk/ http://www.dclug.org.uk/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9/5fok7DVr6iX/QIRAthzAJ0a/8hXyaDDbrIYtr5OzToCnnqnmQCfX7VN ora/d9Tr6LFCYBPqiY/rKns= =9mKm -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
