For what it's worth, you could try emailing someone at The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk) to see if they can put pressure on Fujitsu on your behalf - it's amazing what journalists can do sometimes... Alex. Quoting Keith Abraham <keith.abraham@xxxxxxxx>:
Anyone been following the Fujitsu drive fiasco? I had two of their 20G drives go down in the last year and a half. The 1st was replaced under warranty but after a few months it also went down. By this time the whole machine was out of warranty so I replaced the drive with a Maxtor (excellent drive). As I'm loath to throw anything away I retained the faulty drive. When the fiasco blew up I contacted Fujitsu. But, although the drive has the same faulty chipset and exhibits all the reported symptoms, they would'nt replace it because they only do replacements under a distribution warranty. So I'm out in the cold! My machine manufacturer can do nothing because I'm out of warranty and Fujitsu will do nothing because they will only deal with the manufacturer of the machine. To cut the story short as I am not the original purchaser of the drive I have recourse to no one. Happy days! Keith
