Hi Ian, I have been looking Computer Shopper this month and would it looks as if that would be about a right figure - Hardware vpn router/firewall + antivirus on workstations, possibly with a personal s/ware firewall on each machine. I would love to set up a Linux server, but not sure if I can swing it - even just a Smoothwall gateway may be expecting a bit much of them - unless I can sell it on the cost factor - i.e. free! Unfortunately, I am based in Newquay and so it's a bit too far from Plymouth to 'pop over', but any info on that Linux server would be gratefully received. Many thanks, Mark Harvey On Saturday 27 July 2002 11:49, you wrote:
Hi all. BT have quoted over £2k for firewall/antivirus which seens a bit excessive to me, esp as I have become used to the free software with Linux on my home machine.I would imagine if I was going it, I could get install costs to under £500. Some money for the router, some money for a machine to act as your mail server, and general network server. Virus scanning can be done on emails entering the network via the Linux server (I have a full document on how to achieve this using debian Linux) If you want, feel free to get in touch with me personally, if you're around here (plymouth), I can pop over :) Ian
