bear in mind that you don't need to use updates for security, the only thing 
you need for that is the .deb's from security.debian.org.

however, security.debian may well depend on updated packages from updates, i'm 
not too sure about that.

Anyhting that will actuially compromise the system will appear in there, the 
other updates are only things that are 'nice' to upgrade.

also take a look at cron-apt to automate the downloading (though actuall 
install is not advised).
