XML marks up data. Like HTML does form presentation purposes, XML does for infomative purposes. (meaning = data + information) eg...
HTML - Mark up for Presentation.
WRONG!!!!
Both XML and HTML mark up structure and information. The fact that HTML is widely *abused* for presentation is a huge mistake, and one of the greatest weaknesses of the Web today.
Also, XML (extensible!), unlike HTML, can be extended. You can make your own tags up.
That's a rather deeper issue than I'm going to deal with here. You're not comparing like with like.
The only other thing I've learned so far is that XML and HTML are subsets of SGML - I also believe the w3c are making XHTML a subset of XML (which in turn, as mentioned, is a subset of SGML - but don't quote me on this)
Nope. XML is almost a subset of SGML. HTML is an application of SGML, while XHTML is an application of XML.
hope that made sense
You've been reading too many half-truths.
