In this instance it forwards the messages on to volunteers who sort out the spam, and offtopic posts. A lot of the spam is rejected automatically. The rejections often lurk in the mail queue which some switched on admins detest as they want to know if genuine mail isn't being delivered promptly, and so watch their mail queues carefully (or more likely get cron to watch it for them). Although with the amount of lost email these days less and less admins worry about such things alas. Anyway thanks for the offers from DCLUG, but Peter Gradwell has offered some space on a very suitable box, so I'll pursue that offer for the moment. (Gradwell.com offer ISP independent services such as e-mail accounts, and Usenet).
