Generally if you can get a Mac code you can migrate to another ISP with hardly any down time (a matter of minutes) and it's usually free to migrate. If your connection is ceased you will have to wait until the line is clear of the ADSL before you can put in another order and then you'll have to wait for activation (which could be up to a week although usually only a couple of days) and there is a chance that you could be charged an activation fee (not all ISP's charge this, some pay this and just keep you on a 12 months contract). Sounds like you're best to get away from Pipex though. It really gets me when these big ISPs which offer awful service go on a buying spree purchasing lots of other ISPs.
