RobHave a read of the GnuPG FAQ on the DCGLUG website and bring several copies of your key fingerprint details. There'll be enough experienced GnuPG users at the meeting to answer all your queries on using keys, the web of trust, when to use and when not to use keys, the responsibilities of having your own key and how the whole fits together.http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/gnupg.htmlThis kind of thing can be difficult to do as a talk because people have often read the docs and still not grasped elements of the process. So if others have queries then I'm sure Robin and I can run a Q&A session on anything to do with GnuPG.Simply do: $ gpg --fingerprint your-key-id > a_file.txtand then print that. Bring along the usual photo Id (passport and/or the non-paper driving licence) and you can have your key signed.http://gnupg.neil.williamsleesmill.me.uk/book1.html
Right,So if I create a key, I'm assuming I have to do this on a Linux system? I'm running Windows XP on my main PC at the moment, I am planning on moving over to Debian or SuSE 9.3 in the near future (once I've got round to backing up the GB's of stuff which has been sitting on my hard drive for months).
If I was to create the private key on a temporary Debian system, could I transfer it to CD and then transfer it to another system (say if I reinstall the OS, or upgrade/replace the PC)?
