[LUG]Re: Jit.si meetings

From Eion MacDonald (U3A) <maceion@xxxxxxxxx>

Dear folk, those of us 'well adrift' from the south can only attend 'virtual' of Jisi meetings or follow by email. I have never met folk 'in person' but I have learned a lot from the LUG members.

Nowadays I also speak over 'Google Meet' with two folk in Ukraine to help them speak with 'native English speakers'. They email me about a couple of hours before we speak on their Friday evening (about 5pm UK time)

My major problem, is old age 'forgetfulness' of when meetings are taking place. I had not appreciated how bad it gets until you are there. With their persons in front of me I still mix up my daughter and son names! Ah! A reminder email arriving on Saturday mornings would help jog the memory and avoid me getting the wife's shopping at that time.

I feel most regretful that I have not played a fuller part in the LUG, which got me started in Linux Distro use such a long time ago.

Let us do our best.
I can use email and VoIP meetings but regret I am not up to your continuous input steam program (name I forget).

Thank you for considering me.
12 noon Saturday

Kindest regards
Eion Macdonald

The time before I was the only one there as well.

To be fair,  the virtual meetings came about mostly due to Covid and social distancing,  so we could go back to physical meetups,  in fact we can then integrate a virtual element so Eion and others can still attend,  the venue would just need internet access.

Face to face meets may also help with getting new members on board, it makes it easier in a way to deal with technical issues, demonstrate things etc.

The Matrix and IRC channels are open 24/7 anyway,  anything posted to Matrix will be picked up quickly.

If there is a consensus for that, then I will remove jit.si from the lug website.

Paul
